A Grammar of the Corpse: Necroepistemology in the Early Modern Mediterranean

為了解決Fraught的問題,作者Spragins, Elizabeth 這樣論述:

No matter when or where one starts telling the story of the battle of al-Qasr al-Kabir (August 4, 1578), the precipitating event for the formation of the Iberian Union, one always stumbles across dead bodies--rotting in the sun on abandoned battlefields, publicly displayed in marketplaces, exhume

d and transported for political uses. A Grammar of the Corpse: Necroepistemology in the Early Modern Mediterranean proposes an approach to understanding how dead bodies anchored the construction of knowledge within early modern Mediterranean historiography. A Grammar of the Corpse argues that the pr

esence of the corpse in historical narrative is not incidental. It fills a central gap in testimonial narrative: providing tangible evidence of the narrator’s reliability while provoking an affective response in the audience. The use of corpses as a source of narrative authority mobilizes what cultu

ral historians, philosophers, and social anthropologists have pointed to as the latent power of the dead for generating social and political meaning and knowledge. A Grammar of the Corpse analyzes the literary, semiotic, and epistemological function these bodies serve within text and through languag

e. It finds that corpses are indexically present and yet disturbingly absent, a tension that informs their fraught relationship to their narrators’ own bodies and makes them useful but subversive tools of communication and knowledge. A Grammar of the Corpse complements recent work in medieval and ea

rly modern Iberian and Mediterranean studies to account for the confessional, ethnic, linguistic, and political diversity of the region. By reading Arabic texts alongside Portuguese and Spanish accounts of this key event, the book responds to the fundamental provocation of Mediterranean studies to w

ork beyond the linguistic limitations of modern national boundaries.

Each Day a Small Victory

為了解決Fraught的問題,作者 這樣論述:

BRITISH COMEDY AWARD winner, Chips Hardy’s debut novel, Each Day a Small Victory is "...is not just a rich, sensuous, deeply humorous animal story - it is also a brilliant celebration of life, death and the whole damn thing."Meet Max. He’s made a name for himself as a rabid psychopath who uses ra

ndom acts of violence to instigate a campaign of terror. He feels his blood thirsty reputation is undeserved and wants to set the record straight. Each Day a Small Victory is a month-by-month look at Max’s fraught and bloody encounters, as both the hunter and the hunted. When Max turns nasty and his

killer instinct kicks in, Each Day a Small Victory gets to the bloody heart of the adrenaline-fuelled chase as blind panic often overtakes his chosen victim. Max isa stoat, one of nature’s most efficient hunters. Max, ever the opportunist, takes full advantage of the rhythms and cycles of nature. Wh

o will be next for the kill? As the year progresses and the body count mounts up, will Max avoid meeting the same bloody and gory fate that he has inflicted on so many others? Be prepared to be shocked, Max doesn’t have time for humans with a romantic vision of the countryside. Animals were harmed i

Sir Roy Strong"I’ve been reading a remark

able little book - Each Day a Small Victory by Chips Hardy. It’s a kind of cute animal tale with a twist - it ain’t cute! Far from it. This is anthropomorphic nature red in tooth and claw, with a twist of black humour. The anti-hero of the book, Max, is a stoat whose only aim in life is to find his

next meal, while avoiding becoming someone else’s. In that sense, it’s the most honest animal story I’ve ever come across, and it’s a great read. Chips clearly knows his countryside very well indeed - there is plenty of detail about the various animal characters and their habits. He is a British Com

Developing Intelligent Methods for Image Localization and Segmentation

為了解決Fraught的問題,作者KANIKA 這樣論述:

Nowadays, segmentation has become a primary research area for numerous researchers for different applications. This study focused on the applications of image segmentation in medical image, particularly tumor segmentation from magnetic resonance image (MRI) of various diseases such as Parkinson’s d

isease (PD), tuberous sclerosis (TBS), atrial fibrillation (AF), and defects of TFT-LCD panel images followed by the generation of laser cutting paths by locating and segmenting defects in the automatic optical inspection (AOI) domain. The MRI tumor segmentation is the first step for further downstr

eam analysis. If not treated on time it will lead to cancers and, even worse, loss of life. But there are many challenges for these image segmentations that existing methods fail accurately, in bias fields, MRI artifacts, ambiguous and inhomogeneous structures, and low resolution. Therefore, a hybri

d approach of wavelet k-means clustering (KMC) and fuzzy median filter (FMF) has been proposed to address these challenges. Experimental evaluations on 24 PD, 234 AF, and 82 TBS showed that the proposed method has outperformed other existing methods has attained good quantitative and qualitative mea

surement results by outperforming other existing methods. The analytical results can provide shreds of evidence to help early detection of PD, TBS, and AF diseases from MRIs by radiologists and physicians. After that, this study focused on resolving problems of the localization, detection, and separa

tion of TFT-LCD panel defects. They are crucial for the LCD manufacturing industry. But accurate defect segmentation is fraught with challenges such as diverse shapes, types, locations, and similar defective pixels with the non-defective part, that existing methods failed to overcome. Therefore, thi

s has been addressed by developing adaptive segmentation methods. Next, this study was extended to establish the procedure for the accurate laser cutting of TFT-LCD panel defects. For this purpose, a novel color normalization singular value decomposition Reinhard Neutrosophic Canny segmentation fram

ework has been proposed to overcome the color variation in images during LCD panel image acquisition. The Neutrosophic Canny edge SVDRNC) segmentation method was proposed to identify the edges of the segmented image. Additionally, the end coordinates of an edge-detected image at the top and bottom

directions were determined, allowing for the generation of straight lines to guide laser cutting. Finally, the experimental evaluations on 250 TFT-LCD panel images were performed where the proposed method outperformed the other eight methods, registering a higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (19.21),

dice score (0.90), Jaccard similarity (0.92), and correlation coefficient (0.91) metric values. The developed methods are crucial and can be used for further feature extraction and integrated with other images to study important medical and AOI hypotheses using large datasets.
