虛構生物有著許多相同的稱謂，像是怪獸、怪物等。牠們大多是源自於神話故事，也因為可以發揮無限的想像力，所以虛構生物的創作一直被創作者們喜愛。無論是電影、動畫或是電玩，神話或是虛構的題材一直是對於觀眾是極具有吸引力的，例如歷久不衰的星際大戰系列電影。角色向來都是任何敘事題材的靈魂，是可以讓閱聽眾直接感受到的特質。本研究致力於研究虛構生物之造形設計。在第二章文獻探討分為三大方向，分別是神話、動物學以及角色設計。探討神話對於虛構生物之造形影響、動物學與虛構生物間之奇妙的關聯性以及角色設計與虛構生物的結合，最後將探討之結論歸納整理成論點延續到第三章之案例分析。第三章將五部好萊塢電影做虛構生物之造形的分

析與歸納並且將第二章的的論點印證之。經由其他學者提出的「外向內造型結構」、「內向外造型結構」、「基本幾何形」與「角色個性賦予」四項元素的探討後，再融合本創作中所使用之改良創作方法，在第四章創作論述的部分，將前一章所探討的結果應用至創作中。在最後的論述，彙整個人的創作過程以及方法，提供日後對於虛構生物有興趣的創作者作為參考。
