Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: The Wild, Definitive Saga of Rock’s Greatest Supergroup

"In what is the most comprehensive biography of the group to date, Browne compiles a fun and fast-paced music history.... an authoritative chronicle." --Publishers WeeklyThe first and most complete narrative biography of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, by acclaimed music journalist and Rolling Stone

senior writer David Browne Even in the larger-than-life world of rock and roll, it was hard to imagine four more different men. David Crosby, the opinionated hippie guru. Stephen Stills, the perpetually driven musician. Graham Nash, the tactful pop craftsman. Neil Young, the creatively restless lon

er. But together, few groups were as in sync with their times as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Starting with the original trio's landmark 1969 debut album, the group embodied much about its era: communal musicmaking, protest songs that took on the establishment and Richard Nixon, and liberal attit

udes toward partners and lifestyles. Their group or individual songs--"Wooden Ships," "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "After the Gold Rush," "For What It's Worth" (with Stills and Young's Buffalo Springfield), "Love the One You're With," "Long Time Gone," "Just a Song Before I Go," "Southern Cross"--became

the soundtrack of a generation. But their story would rarely be as harmonious as their legendary and influential vocal blend. In the years that followed, these four volatile men would continually break up, reunite, and disband again--all against a backdrop of social and musical change, recurring d

isagreements and jealousies, and self-destructive tendencies that threatened to cripple them both as a group and as individuals. In Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young: The Wild, Definitive Saga of Rock's Greatest Supergroup, longtime music journalist and Rolling Stone writer David Browne presents the u

ltimate deep dive into rock and roll's most musical and turbulent brotherhood on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Featuring exclusive interviews with David Crosby and Graham Nash along with band members, colleagues, fellow superstars, former managers, employees, and lovers-and with access to un

released music and documents--Browne takes readers backstage and onstage, into the musicians' homes, recording studios, and psyches, to chronicle the creative and psychological ties that have bound these men together--and sometimes torn them apart. This is the sweeping story of rock's longest-runnin

g, most dysfunctional, yet pre-eminent musical family, delivered with the epic feel their story rightly deserves. David Browne is a senior writer at Rolling Stone and is the author of So Many Roads: The Life and Times of the Grateful Dead and Fire and Rain: The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, James Ta

ylor, CSNY, and the Lost Story of 1970 as well as biographies of Sonic Youth and Jeff and Tim Buckley. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Spin, The New Republic, and other outlets. He lives in Manhattan.

Lyrics:

I spent way too long on the interstate
Put a couple hundred miles on it yesterday
Only so many songs that I can sing yeah
By myself

Started daydreamin just to get away
But I almost crashed the car so I hit the brakes
Only so much distance that I can take yeah
By myself
Cause I’m feelin strange it makes my head hurt
Wish you were here to make it better
It’s not the same when you’re away from me

Wishin I could be in the carpool lane
Got you right there sittin next to me
We’d be passin everybody
Goin a hundred and ten down the highway
Wishin I could be in the carpool lane

Feet up on the dash sittin next to me
But you’re not here no one to hold me
It takes two wish it was me and you in the
Carpool lane, yeah

Carpool lane, oh yeah
Carpool lane
It takes two wish it was me and you

I see the sun’s goin down tryna get away
And I can’t see straight through the pourin rain
Still, so many things that I need to say
Need to say need to say yeah

Have I been drivin in the wrong direction
I’ve been so caught up think I missed my exit
It would’ve taken me right to you
Right to you you you
Cause I’m feelin strange it makes my head hurt
Wish you were here to make it better
It’s not the same when you’re away from me
Oh no no

Wishin I could be in the carpool lane
Got you right there sittin next to me
We’d be passin everybody
Goin a hundred and ten down the highway
Wishin I could be in the carpool lane
Feet up on the dash sittin next to me

But you’re not here no one to hold me
It takes two wish it was me and you in the
Carpool lane, yeah
Carpool lane, oh yeah
Carpool lane
It takes two wish it was me and you
(Carpool lane)

But you’re not here no one to hold me
It takes two wish it was me and you in the

Samantha Spinner and the Super-Secret Plans

Get ready for round-the-world adventure with Sam Spinner and her brother Nipper in the first book in a new hilarious, puzzle-packed series filled with super-secret messages Perfect for fans of Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library and classics like Holes.Samantha Spinner's uncle Paul disappeared, an

d here's what he left: * Samantha's sister got a check for $2,400,000,000. * Samantha's brother got the New York Yankees. * And Samantha got a rusty red umbrella with a tag hanging off its worn handle. The tag says "Watch out for the RAIN." Thanks a lot, Uncle Paul. After all the strawberry waffles,

stories, and puzzles they've shared, how could he just leave without saying goodbye? And what is the meaning of that mysterious message? The answer is simple. Sam knows in her heart that Uncle Paul is in danger. And if he taught her anything, it's that not everything is exactly what it seems. Which

is why we should pay close attention to that rusty red umbrella, and never trust a monkey at a hula-hoop contest. The RAIN is coming and Samantha Spinner is about to find herself mixed up in some super-important, super-dangerous, super-secret plans. Praise for Samantha Spinner and the Super Secret
