摺紙已在人類歷史中存在數百年，但對於摺紙的專業研究方面還是屬於小眾，近年才因為國際間數學和物理上的研究發展而使摺紙逐漸受到重視。但隨著摺紙研究的人越來越多，摺紙的複雜程度也不斷增加，從10年前書籍中30~40個步驟的摺紙，到現在200~300個以上步驟的摺紙越來越多，相信不久的將來數千個步驟的摺紙也會開始被創造出來。本研究則反向思考簡化摺紙的方法，從造形設計的角度探討摺紙的結構簡化與造形簡化。先透過文獻探討的方式，蒐集摺紙造形與分析設計方法，了解如何透過一張正方形紙，僅透過摺疊做出各式各樣的摺紙創作。並結合臺灣民俗傳統的動物「十二生肖」為例，以12種生肖動物的摺紙為原形，融入民俗紙雕技法來進

行摺紙的簡化試驗。希望創作出的簡易摺紙造形，往後能開發為親子手作的商品，在年節時做為父母與孩童間的親子活動，不僅可強化孩童手眼協調而且還可以與增進親子感情。
